Dispute resolution, trusts and estates and access to information

What has been the highlight of your practice over the past 12 months?

From my own practice, my highlight was successfully resisting a summary judgment application before Jersey's Court of Appeal in Jersey's first post onset of Covid-19 remote Court of Appeal hearing. More widely, I have been delighted that the firm was Citywealth's IFC Boutique Firm of the Year (for the third year in a row,) the firm was nominated by the Legal 500 for its Offshore Law Firm of the Year award (having won it in 2017), the firm has again been nominated for the STEP PCA 2020 Boutique Law Firm of the Year award and the firm was listed in a Legal 500 client survey as one of the top four firms in Jersey for client service.

How did you get into private client?

It came about because I moved to Jersey over 20 years ago and because I enjoy the work.

What advice would you give rising stars/new lawyers in the private client world?

To specialise early, focus on the area of specialisation, achieve excellence in the relevant area, work as hard, if not harder, than your peers, develop a good range of contacts and remember that the best form of marketing is doing a good job.

What is your favourite quote?

"To take risks is greater than taking no risks at all." It was one of my late father's favourite sayings.

Do you have any outside interests or hobbies?

I like exercise, films, food (okay - and drink), friends, property development, reading, running, shooting, skiing, surfing, tennis, and (most of all) hanging out with my wife, two boys and our 3 dogs....

When the restaurants reopen, where would you like to go?

The Oyster Box in St Brelade's Bay, Jersey (very closely followed by La Brae Cafe in St Ouen's Bay, Jersey).
