Q&A

What has been the highlight of your practice over the past 12 months?

Becoming a partner in the private client team, and advising two different clients in respect of long-running disputes with HMRC. Both disputes raise very interesting questions of law – one relating to residence for double tax treaty purposes, and the other relating to tax avoidance motives.

What advice would you give rising stars/new lawyers in the private client world?

With the increased complexity of tax and reporting rules over recent years it is crucial to be able to offer clients thorough and up-to-date advice in a straightforward and user-friendly manner which is easy to understand. Clients assume you know the law – they want an adviser who can explain it.
