What has been the highlight of your practice over the past 12 months?

Winning both STEP's Contentious Trust & Estates Team of the Year Award 2019 and Legal Business's Private Client Team of the Year Award 2020. These awards were real highlights of the past year and the result of our fantastic team working together closely to achieve excellent results for our clients.

Back when I was a trainee, I found private client to be the most exciting area, as it involved working with the most interesting clients and fascinating long-running cases. Many years later, I still agree with this and definitely made the right career decision.

What advice would you give rising stars/new lawyers in the private client world?

To take every opportunity to meet as many people as possible at all levels in the private client world, and to start to build lasting relationships with them from an early stage.

Q&A

What has been the highlight of your practice over the past 12 months?

I was delighted to be promoted to partner at Penningtons Manches in April this year, having joined the firm as a trainee in 2009. It is a privilege to work in such a dynamic and aspiring team and I am excited to be part of its continuing development and growth.

What advice would you give rising stars/new lawyers in the private client world?

(1) Find a mentor – having someone supporting you and invested in your career is invaluable.
(2) Search for the aspects of your work that interest and inspire you, and look for ways to develop your practice towards them. When work challenges you with competing demands and a heavy caseload, having a genuine enthusiasm and interest in what you do is very important.
(3) Understand what your values are, both within and outside work.
