What has been the highlight of your practice over the past 12 months?

Whilst acting for the wife in Goddard-Watts v Goddard Watts [2019] EWHC 3367 (Fam), I was involved in an unprecedented application to set aside a financial order on divorce for the second time within the same proceedings on the basis of fraudulent non-disclosure by the husband. Mr Justice Holman, the judge determining the application in the wife’s favour, described the scenario as “vanishingly rare and probably unique”.

How did you get into private client?

My father was a lawyer and I went to a “Take Your Daughter To Work” day when I was 12 at Eversheds in Leeds. I sat with a litigation partner for the day and knew I’d found what I wanted to do. One of my electives at university was family law and I really enjoyed it. I like the technical aspect paired with the people side and problem solving – you are ultimately trying to help the family, versus “winning and losing.”

What advice would you give rising stars/new lawyers in the private client world?

Trust your instincts, do what you enjoy and believe in yourself.

What is your favourite quote?

“Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you." Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Do you have any outside interests or hobbies?

My family! My two young children are the best in terms of negotiation training. I love the countryside, hiking, hot yoga, travel and exploring different cultures. I’ve always found historical stone structures fascinating – so archaeology, too.

When the restaurants reopen, where would you like to go?

I love Asian food – with a twist, I am vegan - and anywhere that serves good cocktails.
