What has been the highlight of your practice over the past 12 months?

I’ve been called to act as a fiduciary for a number of my international private clients. In addition, I have been asked to work collaboratively with major international law firms, particularly in Switzerland, the US, UK and France with regards to offering ongoing US tax advice to international families.

How did you get into private client?

I have always thought that private client lawyers are the lawyers with personality. My father had a strong quality of entertainment in his personality – he lit up, in front of a group. My mother was very rational – of Germanic background. I would say I am a combination of the two. I believe that rationality, empathy, and a sense of humor are needed to be a good private client lawyer.

What advice would you give rising stars/new lawyers in the private client world?

It goes without saying that you must be technically competent, but the greatest challenges are to be a good listener and an astute psychologist, and to deliver advice of lasting, multi-generational value.

What is your favourite quote?

"Plans are only good intentions unless they immediately degenerate into hard work." Peter Drucker.

Do you have any outside interests or hobbies?

Painting landscapes.

When the restaurants reopen, where would you like to go?

The Bar Room at The Modern in Manhattan.
