What has been the highlight of your practice over the past 12 months?

LatAm has been through a particularly tough time in the past 12 months. With the instability, people and businesses are looking to structure wealth offshore. We have seen a growth in work coming from Bolivia, Chile, Argentina and Mexico due to political considerations (essentially, the growth of left-oriented populism) and tax reforms.

How did you get into private client?

When I started working in Argentina for a large law firm, I saw that most of the partners and senior associates were focused on the big corporate clients. Simultaneously, the families behind these corporations were being served by pro bono and junior attorneys. I always thought this was strange – why provide a good service to the company and not to the family? Since then, I have always wanted to have my own law firm – providing legal and concierge services to high-net-worth families, irrespectively of whether they were still running the family business or they have already had an exit event. You can learn a lot of things from this type of client if you get close enough to them.

What advice would you give rising stars/new lawyers in the private client world?

This field is now much more challenging and therefore more fun than ever before. Study hard so that you can compete and succeed.

What is your favourite quote?

“Don’t envy the rich, be one.”

Do you have any outside interests or hobbies?

Reading, writing (during the pandemic I finished and published my second book!), tennis and flying.

When the restaurants reopen, where would you like to go?

Our local Italian restaurant Emilio’s, at Bay Harbour, Miami.
