What has been the highlight of your practice over the past 12 months?

It is hard to pick one highlight. The clients and the work are extremely varied. We have been involved in a number of complex international disputes over the last year as well as some very interesting court of protection cases around both property and affairs, and health and welfare. The use of the Court of Protection as a forum for litigating inter family disputes seems to be on the increase.

How did you get into private client?

Many years ago, I joined a small private client team which subsequently became part Taylor Wessing. Shortly after joining Mishcon in 1995, I got the opportunity to work on some contentious private client work which I found particularly enjoyable. I made the switch to litigation and began building up the private client litigation practice which we have today.

What advice would you give rising stars/new lawyers in the private client world?

You need to be empathetic and alive to the broader issues the 21st Century client faces – not just the initial problem they come to you with; that and be prepared to work hard

What is your favourite quote?

“You're gonna need a bigger boat." Captain Martin Brody, Amity (Jaws). Factually correct and straight to the point.

Do you have any outside interests or hobbies?

I follow for my sins, Arsenal FC. I also enjoy tennis.

When the restaurants reopen, where would you like to go?

Paradise – an Indian restaurant in South End Green, London. Choose the railway lamb!
