Contentious trust disputes
Applications to Court for (i) administrative directions, (ii) relief on the grounds of mistake; and (iii) rectification of trust documents.
Advising trustees on matters including disclosure of trust information, trustee decision-making, and on issues arising when beneficiaries are involved in divorce proceedings.

What has been the highlight of your practice over the past 12 months?

I am part of a team advising beneficiaries in respect of long-running proceedings concerning a high-value Jersey trust, which includes an application to partition the trust. The proceedings have multi-jurisdictional aspects, with related proceedings taking place in England and in Switzerland. I recently represented a beneficiary in Beddoe proceedings, which confirmed the existence of joint privilege in legal advice taken by the trustee for the benefit of the trust, such that it could be disclosed to the beneficiary in circumstances where there were rival claimants to the fund.

How did you get into private client?

Initially, I gained experience of private client work during my training contract. I particularly enjoyed advising on contentious matters, and moved to Jersey to pursue a career in trust litigation.

What advice would you give rising stars/new lawyers in the private client world?

Provide excellent customer service – listen to clients' needs and (if an institution) understand their business. Be proactive – where possible, seek to identify potential problems and point clients towards solutions. Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge – keep abreast of recent developments in your area.

What is your favourite quote?

"It’s not the will to win that matters—everyone has that. It’s the will to prepare to win that matters.”

Do you have any outside interests or hobbies?

I am a keen racing cyclist, competing in Jersey and in the UK. I was part of the women's cycling team that represented Jersey and won gold and silver medals in the 2019 Island Games.

When the restaurants reopen, where would you like to go?

Park House - amazing Thai food!
