How did you get into private client?

I started with Lenz and Staehlin in 1998 as a trainee. For the first 6 years I was a litigator and the Senior Partner I was working for had very serious private clients, which he let me assist him with on the side. I really started to like it and went to NY to do the LLM, choosing trust and estates. The private client partner then asked me to join his practice and I don’t regret it!

What advice would you give rising stars/new lawyers in the private client world?

I would recommend that they not only focus on the legal side of a case but also consider the family issues and other side issues which are involved and which are important for family members. Each family is different and it is crucial for a good lawyer to find out what is best for the specific family.
