How did you get into private client?

I trained and qualified at Slaughter and May, when they still had their trust department. They closed the private client department when I was 2 years PQE. I was offered positions in the pensions, employment and corporate departments but wanted to do private client work, so I moved to Lawrence Graham.

What advice would you give rising stars/new lawyers in the private client world?

For me, the most important thing, and my favourite part of what I do, is getting to know the client and, if the client is a family, working to develop a deep understanding of the different dynamics at work within the family. You need to provide a space for the client to feel comfortable to discuss some potentially really challenging concerns about, for example, death, money and family relationships.

What is your favourite quote?

"Hunger and love are what moves the world." Friedrich Schiller.

Do you have any outside interests or hobbies?

I love music. I also have a keen academic interest in psychoanalysis (the subject matter of my PhD). I'm a volunteer for Cruse (the bereavement charity) and gain a huge amount from working with people who are doing their best to make sense of loss.

When the restaurants reopen, where would you like to go?

Murano, London. Before lockdown, I used to take clients there every few weeks and I really miss it!
