Trust litigation
Judicial review
Commercial – asset tracing, fraud, enforcement

What has been the highlight of your practice over the past 12 months?

The biggest case is the Re Z Trust case, which I’ve been working on since 2018, breaking new ground entirely (in which the Jersey court is developing an insolvency regime for trusts and has most recently been in the Court of Appeal). There are lots more issues to come within this case, including rights of indemnity. Judicial review of the investigation, noted by the Attorney General in 2019, has set important precedent on the basis of how to challenge investigations of fraud notices from authorities.

How did you get into private client?

When I moved to Jersey, trust litigation was involved in a lot of what we do and became even more prevalent over the years. It’s a very interesting area and unique – a specialist area which cannot just be dabbled in.

What advice would you give rising stars/new lawyers in the private client world?

"Three things:
1. Be ready to learn something new every day.
2. Never assume anything. Assumption is the mother of all mistakes.
3. Think independently and trust your instincts."

What is your favourite quote?

"If you think hiring a professional is expensive, wait till you hire an amateur." - Unknown

Do you have any outside interests or hobbies?

Golf is a particular hobby.

When the restaurants reopen, where would you like to go?

Bohemia- a Michelin starred restaurant in Jersey, with modern international cuisine.
