What has been the highlight of your practice over the past 12 months?

Being shortlisted for the Litigation Rising Star Award at the British Legal Awards was really welcome recognition of the hard work put in by me and the team at Stevens & Bolton to build a leading private wealth disputes practice at the firm. I've also been fortunate to act in some really interesting disputes, with particular focus this year on issues arising from divorce proceedings where we've been helping clients deal with complex problems arising from divorces in overseas jurisdictions and the enforcement of their rights in the UK.

How did you get into private client?

I've always found working with private clients more rewarding because of the personal contact with clients, feeling like your work makes a difference to a person rather than a corporate entity. I'm also a natural litigator, and enjoy the positioning and strategy of a dispute, as well as finding creative ways to solve arguments.

What advice would you give rising stars/new lawyers in the private client world?

Understanding is everything - understanding of the law and procedure is a good start, but understanding of people and the market makes the top lawyers in the private client sphere who they are.

What is your favourite quote?

“Life is short. Smile whilst you still have teeth.”

Do you have any outside interests or hobbies?

Predominantly gin-based, yes. When I'm not working or travelling for work, life revolves around spending time with my wife and two children and trying to keep up with the latter.

When the restaurants reopen, where would you like to go?

Difficult to beat the Buenos Aires Steakhouse around the corner.
