Succession planning
Family office

What has been the highlight of your practice over the past 12 months?

Developing our private wealth offering from our Dubai office, with Sunita Singh-Dalal, which has allowed us to offer families in the region advice on the structuring of both their international and regional assets. There is a growing willingness to talk about succession planning and increasing demand for family and corporate governance, and I have enjoyed being part of those discussions.

How did you get into private client?

I did a private client seat as part of my training contract and never looked back! I enjoyed the intricacies of tax and also the real personal connection which private client allows you to have with clients.

What advice would you give rising stars/new lawyers in the private client world?

Be brave and be yourself. Private client lawyers can be conservative so I recommend getting out of your comfort zone and pushing yourself - all the best things happen when you are. Being yourself is also important; so much of our work depends on the relationships you build with people so being genuine is key.

What is your favourite quote?

“Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end,” John Lennon.

Do you have any outside interests or hobbies?

Lockdown meant that my once a week/fortnight running habit became almost daily, and I am now a convert, running 3 or 4 times a week even on holiday. I also this year finally managed to reach the summit of Scafell Pike which bad weather had previously prevented, completing my collection of the 4 highest mountains in the UK. I otherwise like to spend time on a beach with a book, or with my family.

When the restaurants reopen, where would you like to go?

Franco Manca (local to the office) and Clove (local to home).
