What has been the highlight of your practice over the past 12 months?

My practice focuses on trust and succession planning, drafting, family governance, as well as pre-marital asset protection planning. I also advise high-net-worth individuals and families, private banks, as well as institutional trustees on wealth protection structuring as well as on Hong Kong tax implications of certain investment
holding structures. Over the past 12 months, I have provided increasing advice on Hong Kong tax implications for individuals and companies having investment activities or holding companies in Hong Kong. I have also advised a patriarch of a Hong Kong family to structure his EPA, Will and discretionary trust with a professional trustee which limits the distribution to his descendants to an annual income amount, so as to preserve family wealth, preventing spoiling his descendants and also for asset protection. Advice was given on this objective against the potential dependants claim. There is also increasing advice required by HK and PRC clients on the UK tax implications for moving to the UK for residency.

How did you get into private client?

After becoming a mum, I was just teaching revenue law at the university of Hong Kong. I bumped into a friend who was a tax partner at an international law firm and he asked if I may be interested in joining their private client team which was expanding at that time.

What advice would you give rising stars/new lawyers in the private client world?

Be inquisitive, keep good records and be compassionate to client's needs.

Do you have any outside interests or hobbies?

Dancing and watching ballet, watching musicals, shopping online and off!

When the restaurants reopen, where would you like to go?

A big dinner with many friends.
