What has been the highlight of your practice over the past 12 months?

Acting for beneficiaries of a trust created by their father who died when they were teenagers/young adults. They had little idea how the trust assets (commercial London properties and businesses) came to be worth nothing under the trusteeship. Attempts to secure information from an extremely successful businessman (as the only living trustee) were rebuffed. An order was made for him to provide an account and to pay indemnity basis costs. It was a real David v Goliath moment.

What advice would you give rising stars/new lawyers in the private client world?

Take the opportunity to act for those in as many different capacities and coming from as many jurisdictions as you can. Acting for trustees, protectors, settlors, beneficiaries and heirs gives an insight into their perspective.

What is your favourite quote?

“Always forgive your enemies- nothing annoys them so much,” Oscar Wilde.
